East Africa has long faced a power shortage limiting economic growth and confining millions to poverty. Electro-maxx was built to be part of the solution, as the first and only Independent Power Producer above 20MW capacity in Africa founded and funded by Africans.
From Test Plant to Full Capacity
Electro-maxx tested a 20MW plant in December 2009, then secured $35 million in expansion funding from Stanbic Bank in December 2011, commissioning a 60MW plant in November 2012. Its Tororo I and Tororo II power stations continue to supply reliable thermal power into Uganda's national grid.
Vision and Values
Electro-maxx's vision is to become the leading Independent Power Producer in East Africa, increasing electricity availability to support economic growth. As an indigenous, Ubuntu-grounded company, it is committed to reliable service delivery, community investment, and a high-performance team culture, operating under the tagline "Powering the nation."
Shared Leadership With Simba Group
Electro-maxx's board includes Dr. Patrick Bitature as Chairman of Simba Group, alongside a CEO, COO, and CFO who each hold direct roles across Simba Group companies, reflecting the shared philosophy and governance that runs through the wider Group.
Giving Back
Through its Solar Household Lighting Project, Electro-maxx has provided solar power systems to around 1,000 residents near its plant, replacing lanterns and candles, and has invested in expanding classroom capacity at local schools facing overcrowding.
