From MTN Dealer to Multi-Sector Powerhouse: Simba Group's 25-Year Journey
Few companies can trace a straight line from a single retail shop to a multi-sector group spanning three countries and a dozen industries. Simba Group can, and the story is worth revisiting on its own terms.
The First Decade
From the 1998 launch of Simba Telecom as an MTN dealer, the Group expanded into Tanzania in 1999 through Vodacom, and Kenya in 2000 through Safaricom, becoming a tri-nation telecom distributor within just three years. By 2005, Nokia had named Simba Telecom its official Uganda distributor, and the Group made its first move outside telecom entirely with Electro-Maxx.
The Second Decade
Hospitality followed in 2007 with Elgon Terrace Hotel, then expanded further in 2017 with Skyz Hotel Kampala. In parallel, Simba Group entered environmental services through White Nile Consults in 2018, and formalized education as a pillar through Ibanda University and UKETA Learning in 2019.
The Present Chapter
The 2020s have brought HER Working Women, Project 500K, Musana Carts, expanded real estate development, and new bets on mining, logistics, and electric mobility. Twenty-five years in, the throughline hasn't changed: identify a real gap, build something that lasts, and measure success by more than the balance sheet.
