It Started With Two Dreamers and a Single Shop: Revisiting the Simba Genesis
"It started with two dreamers, a single shop, and a belief." That's how Simba Group describes its own founding, and it's a fair summary of what Patrick and Carol Bitature built in 1998.
A Partnership, Not Just a Business
Simba Telecom began as a joint effort between husband and wife, entering an exclusive partnership with MTN Uganda at a moment when the network itself was brand new to the country. Neither party had the benefit of an established playbook.
Betting on Ordinary Ugandans
From the outset, the business was framed around a belief bigger than airtime sales: that ordinary Ugandans deserved the power to connect with loved ones, do business, and dream bigger. That framing, more than the product itself, is what the founders point to as the actual birth of Simba Group.
A Belief That Scaled
The same belief that a single shop could give people more than it appeared to sell, is the throughline connecting that first MTN dealership to Simba Group's current portfolio of energy, hospitality, real estate, agriculture, and social enterprise. The businesses changed. The belief didn't.
